Mari discovered Pilates while she was looking for an activity to give her energy level a jump-start following years of sedentary lifestyle in her busy corporate life; that involved many hours of sitting through meetings or at her desk. This results in frequent neck, shoulder and back aches. Various therapies and exercises she’s tried provided limited relieve. Through Pilates, her condition improved by focusing on alignment, strengthening her core; and she began noticing how it shaped her body while staying pain free. Even today, she continually found herself connected to all aspects of Pilates to get stronger.
Having experienced first hand the many benefits of Pilates, she decided to pursue instructor certification with STOTT PILATES® to better understand Pilates and soon found herself embarking on a new career. She loves that it is a job where one keeps learning and growing. She believes Pilates is restorative yet challenging – a harmony of big and small muscles working together through stretching, strengthening and realigning our bodies.

The desire to return to the ballet studio after having stopped dancing for many years led Dorothy to Pilates to strengthen her core and awaken the mobility in her limbs. Pilates became her staple exercise regime, as she found that it helped her physical performance and body awareness. Drawn into Pilates, she left the corporate world to pursue Pilates teacher training, and moved full-time into the fitness world. Her love for movement, dance and music also led her to train as a barre instructor.
Dorothy finds joy in sharing the functionality and beauty of Pilates and movement, with her clients of various fitness levels, age, and physical conditions, including rehabilitation. When she is not in the studio or scuba diving in the region, she would be somewhere practicing yoga, barre or ballet; or spending time with her miniature Dachshund.
Gemhl’s journey into Pilates started in 2011, while she was searching for a way to relieve her chronic shoulder ache caused by sitting for long hours in front of a computer, working as a marketing executive. She sought many therapies including acupuncture and regular massages, but they only brought temporary relief. The pain and stiffness in her shoulders gradually got worse, and would sometimes even lead to numbness in her hands.
After Gemhl started Pilates, her shoulders quickly started feeling more relaxed, and the pain gradually went away. As a bonus, she walked out of each Pilates session feeling much lighter and taller, and found that her posture, breathing and energy levels also improved. Gemhl benefited so much from Pilates that she decided to begin training as a Pilates instructor while still working full-time in the corporate sector.
Today, Gemhl is a Certified STOTT PILATES® instructor with various certifications from The Center for Women’s Fitness, including Pre & Post-natal Pilates Specialization and Diastasis Recti Recovery.

After entering the workforce, Charmaine rediscovered Pilates. From the mindfulness in every movement, to the coordination and balance required, Pilates challenges the mind and body in every aspect.
Charmaine’s first foray into the fitness and movement industry soon came after an opportunity to teach ballet fitness arose. Each class would end with a short Pilates matwork section, and Charmaine was always on the lookout to find new ways to challenge her clients. As an instructor, Charmaine believes in strong foundational technique being the building blocks to more advanced movements. All the basic principles one would learn in a Pilates class can be functionally applied to everyday movements as well as other workouts, from dancing to weightlifting. In her formative years, Rachel pursued ballet under the Royal Academy of Dance. A continual passion for dance and movement pushed her into exploring other genres thereafter, from modern-contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, to even musical choreography. She delved deeper into overall fitness, health, and wellness as a young adult, and discovered mat Pilates through YouTube. She began incorporating them regularly into her weekly routine and it was during this phase in life when she first wondered what it would be like to work in the fitness industry.
After graduation, Rachel worked full-time as a laboratorist. The nature of her profession gave her many body aches in the neck, shoulders, lower and upper back. She continued being active regularly, but the pain never seemed to be alleviated. When she signed up for reformer classes, she received personal advice from her instructor, and she found her condition improving over time. She also felt herself getting stronger, and developing greater control over her body.
Having experienced the benefits of Pilates, Rachel decided to enrol in a course hosted by Breathe Pilates to deepen her understanding of the human anatomy and STOTT PILATES®️ method. She is fully convinced of the benefits of Pilates and hopes to help others achieve balance, create flow, develop strength, and practise mindful movement!
Charibelle was always into rhythm and movement representing her school in group dance and cheerleading events as a young child. It all changed when she entered her teenage years where a severe curvature of the spine (thoracolumbar scoliosis) required her to wear a metal brace daily to school. Soon after, she underwent a major surgery for a spinal fusion involving 2 rods and 8 screws to straighten her spine.
Many years after in her adulthood, Cha rediscovered the mental and physical benefits of movement. She balanced corporate life with the heavy demands of training for running and triathlon competitions. She has since competed in 9 Olympic distance triathlons, 4 Half-Ironman and 5 Half-Marathon races.
Her love for quality movement and performance also led her to enrol herself and get certified in fitness-related courses such as Strength & Conditioning (NSCA), Pre-and Post-Natal Strength Coaching (GGS).
Pilates became a personal passion when Cha found herself having less time to train for triathlon races after having kids. It was after suffering from clinical depression driven by burnout when she seriously considered becoming more knowledgeable about human anatomy and the STOTT PILATES ® method. Every detail of what she learned from the courses hosted by Breathe Pilates gave Cha a refreshed view of life — enough to make her jump into a long-desired career switch to become a Pilates instructor.
Today, Charibelle uses every session she conducts not just to demonstrate the mental and physical benefits of Pilates but also to relate and empathise with each person’s background as a way to uplift the people she comes into contact with. And while she herself is physically limited in what she can do with the exercises, she lives vicariously through her clients as she challenges and guides them to perform each movement.
Sharon is from Malaysia and has a bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the UK. Her past working experience for the past 6 years are mostly with patients with musculoskeletal and sports injury in an outpatient setting.
She was introduced to Pilates by chance and fell in love with the therapeutic benefits of it. She then started to incorporate Pilates into her patients rehabilitation program and witnessed the effectiveness of Pilates especially in reducing pain and disability.
Sharon believes that exercise is much more than a physical workout. Mind-body movements like Pilates can help to alleviate stress, anxiety and improve wellness in mental health as well.
