This advanced workshop reviews biomechanics, muscle function, and skeletal alignment, helping Pilates instructors refine their teaching skills and apply functional anatomy insights to every exercise.

STOTT PILATES® Workshops

  • This hands-on workshop, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Discuss the differences between static and dynamic posture and consider how each affects exercise choices and modifications necessary. Review postural theory relating to the effect of certain postures on muscle length and strength and actively practice postural analysis.

    Learning objectives

    1. Review the steps in conducting a formal postural analysis

    2. Learn how to identify muscular imbalances as they relate to faulty posture

    3. Practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures

    4. Understand how postural issues play into exercise programming

  • This interactive workshop, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, is designed to help students prepare for their STOTT PILATES certification exams.

    It provides valuable information to help students score well on the exam, including an overview of exam format, the most effective and useful study methods, content that should be focused on, and what to expect during the exam. The STOTT PILATES Principles, postural analysis and tips for cueing and correcting are also reviewed.

  • The Stability Chair™ can be an ultra-effective, compact piece of equipment for specially designed athletic conditioning workouts. Learn a variety of exercises that can benefit any level of athlete by retraining imbalanced muscles and building on the strength and agility of the whole body. This well-rounded workout, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, provides functional movements against spring resistance in a variety of positions that train core stability while working bilaterally, unilaterally or reciprocally with the limbs to enhance sport-specific performance or everyday life.

    Learning objectives

    1. Apply the STOTT PILATES® Principles to modified exercises on the Stability Chair

    2. Challenge clients muscular system and build endurance

    3. Challenge abdominal stability and strengthen upper and lower body

    4. Understand how specific exercises can address the needs of athletic conditioning

    • Anatomical position and its importance

    • The bones that make up the axial and appendicular skeleton

    • Names and locations of bony prominences and landmarks

    • Terms of direction and relationship and their application to movement

    • Types of joints and the movements available at the joints

    • Types of muscular contractions, including the application of force

    • Origin, insertion and action of muscles

    • Application of functional anatomy to chosen exercises and movements

  • This interactive, three-hour session, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, prepares the exam candidate for the Cadillac, Chair & Barrels portion of their exam. The majority of time is spent on programming that incorporates all pieces of equipment. Specific exercises from the Cadillac, Chair & Barrels repertoire is reviewed, including correct positioning, breathing and movement patterns.

  • The FIRST session may be the most important group Reformer class taught. This workshop, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, provides the tools necessary to ensure this class is motivating, stimulating and will keep first-time clients coming back for more. Selected STOTT PILATES® Reformer exercises are examined with an eye to maintaining, pace and flow so members ‘feel’ the workout, while still ensuring proper technique. The use of demonstration, imagery and concise cueing and correcting is discussed while focusing on group safety in the studio.

    1. Apply the STOTT PILATES Principles to Jumpboard & select Reformer exercises

    2. Challenge clients cardiovascular system & build endurance

    3. Challenge abdominal stability & strengthen lower body through plyometrics

    4. Learn exercise variations and modifications for specific body types

  • Teaching group classes on the Reformer can be challenging. How do you ensure all your clients get a good workout safely in a group situation? With this workshop, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, develop the skills to give each client individual attention while keeping the class moving and providing challenge at every level. Discover how offering effective cues and corrections can allow you to safely progress your clients through a series of Reformer classes. Learn how creative programming can allow each member to realize potential and achieve success.

    Learning objectives

    1. Review differences between teaching privates and teaching group classes

    2. Learn cueing skills, correction methods and motivational skills that work best in group situations

    3. Review class plans that allow your group class to progress methodically and safely

    4. Learn how to apply the STOTT PILATES® Principles to a group class

  • This lecture, developed by the STOTT PILATES® Academy team, is a review for those who already have functional anatomy knowledge. Topics include: basic biomechanics (levers, effects of gravitational force, effects of muscle force), anatomical terminology, skeletal anatomy, actions at the joints, major muscle groups and the muscles’ origin insertion and action. Select exercises from the STOTT PILATES® repertoire are also broken down and analyzed in terms of the functional anatomy at play. Participants will deepen their understanding of the body and enhance their teaching.

    Learning objectives

    1. Understand levers, effects of gravitational force and effects of muscle force

    2. Review anatomical terminology

    3. Review musculoskeletal anatomy

    4. Review muscle origins, insertions and actions

    5. Understand how to analyze the functional anatomy of an exercise
